Keeping Children Safe In Education

The safety of your children at St Mary and St Joseph is a priority. We provide a caring and safe environment for all children to play and learn.

St Mary and St Joseph VC Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. The health and safety of all children is paramount. As a school, we will take all reasonable action to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our pupils. In cases where the school has reason to be concerned that a child may be subject to ill treatment, neglect or other forms of abuse, staff must follow the Trust’s Safeguarding Policy, which is in line with the DfE Keeping Children Safe In Education. We have rigorous systems to identify and action against any safeguarding concern. All staff are trained and up to date with safeguarding requirements.

Any concerns regarding safeguarding are reported to the DSL or the Deputy DSL. Safeguarding matters are confidential and are only shared on a ‘need-to-know’ basis with members of staff in order to ensure the safety and well-being of pupils. CPOMS is used in school which is an electronic system which supports effective communication of concerns and systematic recording of actions, at the same time as keeping information confidential and secure.

The statutory Department for Education (DfE) guidance for schools and colleges on safeguarding children and safer recruitment can be accessed here.

Our Safeguarding Policy can be found in Policies section of this website.

Sami Sayers: Family Help Schools and Community

Sami Sayers

The new School and Community team are linked within schools all across the East Riding and are there to help support positive outcomes for all children and their families. We will work collaboratively with families, schools, the community and other services to best support the children in school.
We understand that family life can be both rewarding and demanding, and we’re here to offer support as early as possible. Whether you're facing difficulties at home, need advice on parenting, or simply want to talk through a concern, we’re here to help.
One of the many ways we will be doing this is by holding a regular Family Support Drop-In Session in school. These are informal, friendly opportunities for parents and carers to access advice, guidance, or support around any issues that may be affecting family life or your child’s wellbeing.
I look forward to becoming a familiar face within your school community. Please pop and say hi if you see me around school or at any future events.
