Catholic Social Teaching

Catholic Social Teaching tells us how our Catholic Faith guides our actions.

Our faith calls us to love God and to love our neighbours in every situation, especially our sisters and brothers living in poverty. Following in the footsteps of Christ, we hope to make present in our unjust and broken world, the justice, love and peace of God.

Catholic Social Teaching comes from scripture, letters written by popes and holy people, and the examples set by Christians through history.

Pope Francis

“None of us can think we are exempt from concerns for the poor and for social justice.”
Pope Francis

We recognise Catholic Social Teaching in our daily school life and we ensure that children are taught the seven principles. Find out more below:

1. Dignity

EVERYONE IS SPECIAL

God made each person, so every life is important and should be protected.

2. The Common Good

THINKING OF EVERYONE

God made us to be part of communities, families and countries, so all people can share and help each other.

3. Peace

BEING A PEACEMAKER - Rights & Responsibilities

God wants us to help make sure everyone is safe and healthy and can have a good life.

4. Option for the poor

PUTTING PEOPLE MOST IN NEED FIRST

God wants us to help people who are poor, who don’t have enough food, a safe place to live, or a community.

5. Dignity of work

PARTICIPATION

Work is important in God’s plan for adults and their families, so jobs and pay should be fair.

6. Solidarity

WE ARE ONE GLOBAL FAMILY

God made everyone, so we are all brothers and sisters in God’s family wherever we live.

7. Creation & Environment

CARE FOR GOD'S CREATION

The world was made by God, so we take care of all creation.
