PE is hugely important and integral part of the curriculum and wider school life at St Mary and St Joseph VC Academy.

PE is hugely important and integral part of the curriculum and wider school life at St Mary and St Joseph VC Academy. High quality PE and Sport has a very powerful impact on the all-round development of young people as it boosts achievement, builds essential communication and leadership skills, promotes diversity and inclusivity and teaches the importance of healthy, active lifestyles. In our school, we believe every child has a right to access high quality physical education and school sport.

Our PE curriculum is designed using the Get Set 4 PE resources which have been designed by experts and enables staff to teach sequentially in small steps allowing carefully planned skill acquisition and progression in learning throughout school.

We intend to teach children how to cooperate and collaborate with others as part of an effective team, understanding fairness and equity of play to embed life-long values. Our curriculum aims to improve the wellbeing and fitness of all children at St Mary and St Joseph VC Academy, not only through the sporting skills taught, but through the underpinning values and disciplines PE promotes. Children are also provided with key transferrable skills through the School Games network – honesty, determination, teamwork self-belief, passion and respect.

We intend for our pupils to develop positive attitudes towards sport and fitness which enables them to share better habits with their families and friends.
